Museums exist to hold collections in trust for the public, document them, research them, display and exhibit them, and make them available to others. But unlike libraries and archives, museums have largely failed to engage with and portray history as it was, rather through collecting and display they portray a kind of pseudo-history of what they want society to remember, overlooking the histories and individuals they choose not to remember. We at R.io Black Curators have designed courses specifically for self-represented artists to equip them with the tools, strategies, and confidence needed to navigate the art world independently—without relying on traditional gatekeepers.  Our courses are designed to confront the identity struggles and systemic challenges faced by the Diaspora.  Artists are challenged and guided to produce tangible, purpose-driven outcomes that will benefit their communities as a whole.
